This is just one example of a presentation I have done in an ESL classroom. I believe, if we teachers can help our ESL learners navigate some of the simple rules of the English language, they will develop the confidence to experiment in their interactions with native L1 speakers. Sort of an expansion of the i+1 theory where their listening skills become more relaxed with their knowledge of simple grammatical rules. Krashen and Chomsky collide with input plus one and universal grammar acquisition theories! I followed this presentation with a Kahoot It game and the student’s motivation and pure joy of understanding the grammar rule was acquired quite naturally! They were just having fun and communicating.
